Programming
Our team has benefited greatly from the experience of
our resident Motorola engineer and programming mentor,
Thomas Boehm. Mr. Boehm's knowledge has been an
irreplaceable asset and the techniques that he has
passed on to us have shaped our programming into
something we can be proud of. His weekly lessons gave us
a great head start into the 2007-2008 competition and
the many hours he clocked helping all of us were beyond
what we could ever hope or ask for. Though he has done a
great deal for the team, he has also done so much for
me. 07-08 was my first time on the team, and Mr. Boehm
gave me an extremely large responsibility, leading of
programming. I learned a lot from him, and I was
actually able to integrate the knowledge that he gave me
into my computer science courses. He has given me
something to be proud of, and the skills that he has
taught me I can pass on to new team members, and even
other teams! Mr. Boehm has had a tremendous impact on
both myself and the team.

Construction
The build team during the 07-08 season started off like
any other. The day after the kick off we brainstormed
and came up with an idea that was a little unorthodox.
Once we had the idea we went to work. Night after night
mentors, advisors, parents and team members stayed late
prototyping and creating different aspects that would be
put together to create the final masterpiece. When ever
a flaw in the design occurred we would come together to
try to fix it. We did this many different ways whether
it be up in the lab drawing and modeling solutions or
coming together and discussing it over take out. When
the first week in February rolled around we were both
nervous and excited. Some last minute adjustments had to
be made in order for the robot to perform flawlessly but
the thought of the competitions being right around the
corner brought a feeling of vivaciousness. When the
robot finally shipped out we were all sad to see it
leave but anxious at the same time to take on our
opponents at our upcoming competitions.
Being part of the build team I experienced all this
first hand and it impacted me more then I ever thought
it would. Before the build season I was almost strictly
software and thought I would be programming more then
building. But as the season unraveled I started to get
more and more involved with the build team and I never
looked back. The deductive reasoning skills and close
personal experiences with people I gained from the build
team will be carried with me through out my professional
career. |
